It is by knowing the truth, then applying it to one’s life, that will make one free, according to the word of God:
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed in Him, “if you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32
The foundation of life is knowing, and keeping, Jesus’ word.
The way of life is to hold to His teachings (John 8:31) and obey His words (John 8:51).
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6
